ABOUT:  Wayne County Emergency Management

"Wayne County Emergency Management seeks to promote a safer, less vulnerable community with the capacity and resilience to cope with hazards and disasters.."

Wayne County Emergency Management is the department of local government (including the City of Monticello) charged with developing and maintaining the comprehensive emergency management program intended to reduce vulnerability to hazards and enable the community to cope with significant emergencies and disasters.  Wayne County Emergency Management operates under the guidelines prescribed in KRS Chapter 39A–F.

 

The comprehensive emergency management program includes our many partners who share you the citizen as our common customer.  Our collective efforts include the mitigation of, preparedness for, response to, and recovery from threats to public safety from all hazards.  Potential hazards include; severe weather, earthquakes, chemical, biological, and radiological hazardous material incidents, public health emergencies, civil disorder, acts of terrorism, explosions, power failure, aircraft and other transportation related emergencies, mass casualty incidents, as well as any other threats to the health and safety of the public.

DUTIES: Wayne County Emergency Management

 

 

  • Work with the whole community to maintain the comprehensive emergency management program.

  • Planning and execution of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery efforts.

  • Development and maintenance of the Wayne County Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).

  • Planning and response coordination for any natural or man–made emergency or disaster.

  • Provide 24–hour response coverage for any significant emergency within the County and act on behalf of the County and/or City Chief Elected Official in coordinating multiple agencies and resources as necessary.

  • Maintain the Emergency Warning Systems (including the Mass Notification Telephone System and the Outdoor Warning Siren System).

  • Maintain the readiness of the primary and alternate Wayne County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) personnel, facilities and equipment.

  • Provide information and assistance as necessary to the County Administration and City Administrations regarding any significant emergency situation including State of Emergency declarations.

  • Hazardous material release reporting, and response.

  • Develop and organize training exercises annually for public safety agencies to test response procedures within the County EOP.

  • Represent Wayne County on a number of committees and organizations including: Kentucky Emergency Management Association, Wayne County Emergency Planning Committee, Wayne County Hazard Mitigation Committee, Monticello Wayne County Emergency Services Committee, Food and Shelter Board and Monticello Wayne County 911 board.

  • Provide emergency preparedness information to the public including presentations.

  • Oversight for Wayne County Rescue Squad
